60Co-γ absorbed dose catalytic monomerization of 9-cyanoanthracene photodimer in the solid state
- 1. Tanta Univ. (Egypt). Dept. of Chemistry
Description
The effect of high energy 60Co γ-rays, as a strong ionizing radiation, on 9-cyanoanthracene photodimer (9 CNAD) in the solid state has been studied by applying various spectroscopic techniques and differential scanning calorimetry (DSC). As Cu-Ksub(α) x-rays, high energy 60Co γ-rays induce monomerization of 9 CNAD without obviously detectable side products. The extent of the monomerization induced by γ-rays has been evaluated spectrophotometrically. The induced monomerization of 9 CNAD by γ-rays supports our intitial views that a bi-radical mechanism is encountered during its monomerization. The possibility of using such measurements for γ-dosimetry is suggested. (author)
