- 1. Fujita-Gakuen Univ., Toyoake, Aichi (Japan). School of Medicine
Description
The frequency and localization of phantom disc phenomenon in the vertebral column were determined by computed tomographic study of 976 patients who were examined at Fujita-Gakuen University Hospital during the period from July 1980 to January 1982. The correlation between this phenomenon and radiographic findings, such as, narrowing of the disc spaces, spurring and others, and also backache were evaluated. And phantom studies were carried out. Incidence of the phenomenon was 5.0 per cent and this increased with age, Gas in the disc was most frequently seen in the space between Th-11 and 12. Findings mentioned above were the main associated figures of the disease but association with the clinical symptom was not seen. (author)
