Determination of π0N cross section in the charge-exchange reaction of 2,9 GeV/c π+ meson on xenon and carbon nuclei

Description

The aim of the paper is to determine the cross section of π0N-interaction. Reaction π+ + A → p + π0 + A' (1) was studied using a 120-liter bubble chamber placed in a magnetic field of 18 kgs. The chamber was filled with propan and xenon (57% in weight) mixture. The incident π+ momentum is equal to 2,9 GeV/c. The method is proposed for selection of the events of charge exchange for determination of π0N cross-section using the formalism by Glauber and Kolbig and Margolis. π0N-cross section is found to be 28+-6 mb. eta0N cross section is evaluated to be approximately equal to π0N one
