The effect of high temperature aqueous exposure on the uptake of cobalt ions into the surface oxide of inconel 600

  • 1. National Univ. of Malaysia, Bangi, Selangor (Malaysia). Dept. of Physics

Description

The exposure of Inconel 600 specimens to aqueous solutions containing cobalt ions at 573K were carried out in a titanium autoclave. using X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy in conjunction with argon ion beam sputtering technique the oxide films formed on the Inconel surface were investigated. The results show the formation of double-region oxide films with the inner region rich in chromium and the outer containing nickel and iron of approximately the same ratios found in the alloy. The results also show cobalt presents in the divalent state and only in the outer region of the oxide film
