Some experiments with ultracold neutrons
Description
Reported are the results of experimental study of different reasons, causing abnormally small confinement time of ultracold neutron (UCN) within a closed container. Glass, quartz, copper, beryllium, pyrolytical graphite, glass graphite and teflon were used as the materials for container walls. It is obtained that the neutron confinement time does not depend on the thickness of the container walls with an accuracy up to 10%. Obtained are close experimental values of the average coefficient of neutron absorption for the investigated materials of the container wall, which point to the possible existence of a common mechanism causing premature disappearance of UCN out of the container. Given are other results on the UCN study: UCN storage in cylindrical containers of different length, UCN polarization by passing through magnetized foils
