Description

The article describes the current status of the Gentilly-1 reactor. In 1966 Atomic Energy of Canada Ltd. agreed to operate the reactor jointly with Hydro-Quebec, with AECL retaining ownership. The reactor first produced power in 1971 but was temporarily shut down in 1972 due to a heavy water shortage. Modifications have since been made and Hydro-Quebec is currently negotiating the complete purchase of Gentilly l. (T.I.)
