Effect of the sewage discharged from the Ignalina APP into the lake Drukshiai on hydrobionts

Description

In 1988-1991 the genotoxicity of the bottom sediments and water in the lake Drukshiai was studied using test-objects (Tradescantia, Spirodella polyrriza, Salmo gairdneri). It was found that in 1989 considerable amounts of mutagens were discharged through the industrial rain sewage. These mutagens have been spread over large area of the lake mostly concentrating in bottom sediments and causing a significant decrease in life resistance and mutations of hydrobionts. Considerable mutagenicity of bottom sediments at different plants is related to synergetic effects. (author). 3 figs., 1 ref
