This paper focuses on the use of CT and US in the diagnosis of acute hepatobiliary abnormalities, inflammatory disease of the pancreas acute gastrointestinal abnormalities, and blunt trauma to the abdomen. The strengths and weaknesses as well as the appropriate use of both imaging modalities are detailed. The use of CT and US in guiding various abdominal interventional procedures is discussed
