The electrical power equipment and services market in China : market report

Description

This report presents a market overview of the electrical power equipment and services in China and describes the potential for Canadian suppliers to enter into joint ventures to establish local production facilities and transfer technology expertise. In 2002, China increased its electrical output by 10.5 per cent over 2001. Electrical consumption in China is expected to grow 5.5 per cent per year through 2020. Thermal power accounts for 74 per cent of the total power generation in China, followed by hydro power (25 per cent), nuclear power and other sources. In the next decade, China plans to expand reliance on hydroelectricity by developing new hydroelectric power projects and retrofitting existing power generating facilities. This report describes the key factors shaping market growth with particular reference to sector reform, and opportunities with actual and planned projects. The competitive environment was also discussed with reference to local capabilities, international competition, Canadian position, and a competitive advantage through Canadian government policies and initiatives. A section of the report on public-sector customers described the several organizations that manage and approve electric power generation and transmission projects. Considerations for market-entry in China were outlined. The use of a local agent or distributor is recommended for conducting business in China. 45 refs., 10 tabs
