Technique and device for recording signal multiplicity in hodoscopic systems using the syndrome coding

  • 1. Joint Inst. for Nuclear Research, Dubna (USSR)

Description

The essence of the proposed method is that before analysis of signals for t multiplicity the data coming from a multichannel charged particle detector containing n detectors (e.g. scintillators), according to the syndrome coding, is compressed to the value N, that permits to use fast-response programmable read-only memory for determining t. The unit with 21 inputs, which enables to record values t=1, t=2, t=3 and t > 4 during about 30-35 ns is described. The described method differs from the well-known ones in the following way: along with recording signal multiplicity there is a possibility to determine signal coordinates while detecting single-particle events. The method is also distinguished by economical efficiency and high-speed response and it can be the basis for designing majority coincidence circuits having a great number of inputs (>1000)
