The influence of environment and frequency on near threshold and spectrum loading fatigue behaviour of SA508 RPV steel

  • 1. University of the Witwatersrand, Johannesburg (South Africa). Dept. of Metallurgy and Materials Engineering

Description

Since the discovery of an environmentally assisted fatigue crack growth phenomenon in Light Water Reactor (LWR) environments, numerous studies including Bamford (1980) and Kondo et al (1972), have been conducted over the past fifteen years. The present paper describes a series of fatigue tests in pure argon and a Pressurised Water Reactor (PWR) environment which have a number of differing loading sequences. (orig.)
