Description
The presence of consistent amounts of polluting agents in the urban atmosphere is a fact widely confirmed which poses serious problems to the people responsible for the environment management. It is well known that the majority of the polluting agents are produced by the intense traffic or vehicles which introduces in the atmosphere a large quantity of compounds. The toxic effect of some of these (primary polluters) is direct; others (secondary polluters) are the result of chemical reactions occurring within the atmosphere. Consequently, the management of the atmospheric environment requires the knowledge of a great number of processes, which begin with the emission of the polluting agents, and continue with their diffusion in the air, their transformation, the way they move, and how they are deposited or removed

La presenza di considerevoli quantita' di inquinanti atmosferici nell'area urbana e' ormai un fatto ampiamente accertato che pone seri problemi per i responsabili della gestione dell'ambiente. La maggior parte degli inquinanti e', come noto, prodotta dall'intenso traffico autoveicolare che immette nell'atmosfera una grande quantita' di composti. Alcuni di questi composti (inquinanti primari) svolgono la loro azione tossica tal quali; altri sono formati dalle reazioni chimiche che avvengono in atmosfera (inquinanti secondari). Di conseguenza, la gestione dell'ambiente atmosferico richiede la conoscenza di un gran numero di processi che, partendo dall'emissione degli inquinanti, comprendono la loro diffusione in atmosfera, le loro trasformazioni, il loro trasporto e la loro deposizione o rimozioneAdditional details
