Description
Based on Ashcroft's pseudopotential formalism and the self consistent screening function of Vashishta and Singwi, the effective pair potential for liquid strontium is evaluated at its melting temperature. From the effective pair potential, dynamical variables like the autocorrelation function and power spectrum are computed. The same potential is further utilised for the computation of frequencies of longitudinal and transverse phonons in liquid strontium. The frequency expression reproduces the characteristic dispersion curves for longitudinal and transverse phonons in the momentum space by employing the phonon theory for amorphous solids developed by Hubbard and Beeby. From the velocities of longitudinal and transverse phonons, an attempt is made to calculate the lifetimes in the large wave vector region for both types of phonons.
