Quadrupole coupling constants of 3D1 and 3P2 states of of 137Ba and 135Ba
Description
The nuclear quadrupole moment (Q) of 137Ba is obtained using the experimentally measured quadrupole interaction constant (B) of 3D2 state, the field gradient tensor (qsub(i)) at nucleus and <1/r3> which can be evaluated from the fine structure separation of D-state of barium. The calculation gives Q = +0.43b for 137Ba, which agrees very well with Q = +0.42b, obtained experimentally. The quadrupole coupling constant for 137Ba and 135Ba isotopes for the states 3D1 and 3P2 has been calculated using the established Q values of 137Ba, 5d and 137Ba, 6P configurations respectively.
