Description

A self-consistent problem on pinch compression in an ''electrode'' regime with provision for the ion kinetics has been solved. Unlike the ''plasma'' regime, in the ''electrode'' regime the pinch compression is accompanied by a continuous outflow of plasma from a constriction. The mechanism of acceleration of a noticeable number of deuterons at the cost of their multiple reflection from the converging pinch boundary has been revealed. The reflection is caused by an electric and not magnetic field. The effect of magnetic focusing of deuterons moving to the cathode and defocusing of deuterons moving to the anode is demonstrated. The results of the paper are in agreement with those obtained by experiment
