Development of layer structure of precipitations in process of magnetospheric convection

  • 1. AN SSSR, Kol'skij Filial. Polyarnyj Geofizicheskij Inst.

Description

The paper considers the ionospheric precipitation instability of energetic particle fluxes moving convectionally together with the magnetosphere plasma from the magnetotail towards the Earth. The precipitations acquire a laminated structure, similar to that of aurora arcs. With regard to the gradient drift of energetic particles through the bands with enhanced conductivity the electron and proton structures develop independently. In a simultaneous observation they have different orientations, namely, the electron structures become extended roughly in the direction NE-SW and the proton structures - in the direction NW-SE
