Plasma oscillation of electrons in granular films of indium

Description

The frequency dependences of the real part, epsilon1, and imaginary part, epsilon2, of the effective permittivity of thin films of In have been found by measuring the reflection and transmission coefficients and the thicknesses. The observed asymmetry of the resonance plasma absorption bands is attributable to the existence of large and small granules discovered in electron microscopical pictures. The forces of oscillators, f, of the resonance bands of initial and glycerine-filled specimens have been determined by the sum rule. All valence electrons of In are present with high accuracy in determination of f in the indicated resonance absorption. For the glycerine-filled specimens, f is increased by a factor of approximately 1.44. The resonance absorption band is splitted into s- and p-components in the case of incidence of light on the specimen
