Deformation-induced dissolution of Fe2B boride in nanocrystalline α-Fe

Description
Using methods of X-ray diffraction analysis, Moessbauer spectroscopy and magnetic measurements a study is made into structural and phase transformations in a composite material of α-Fe + Fe2B with total boron of 15 at. % on its mechanical comminution in a ball planetary mill. It is established that the dissolution of Fe2B boride, the formation of amorphous phase of Fe-B and the segregation of B atoms along grain boundaries occur when a grain size of 3 nm is attained. A comparative analysis is given for deformation-induced dissolution of Fe2B and Fe3C in Fe-B and Fe-C systems, possible mechanisms of structural and phase transformations are under discussion
Abstract (Russian)
Методами рентгеновской дифракции, мессбауэровской спектроскопии и магнитных измерений изучены структурно-фазовые превращения при механическом измельчении в шаровой планетарной мельнице композита α-Fe + Fe2B с общим содержанием бора 15 ат. %. Установлено, что растворение борида Fe2B, формирование аморфной фазы Fe-B и сегрегаций атомов B на границах зерен происходит при достижении размера зерен 3 нм. Приведен сравнительный анализ деформационно-индуцированного растворения Fe2B и Fe3C в системах Fe-B и Fe-C, обсуждаются возможные механизмы структурно-фазовых превращенийAdditional details
