Survey of radioactivity in sediments in the vicinity of naval establishments in the UK

The survey described here by the Greenpeace Research Fellow of Queen Mary College, London, was carried out during the Summer of 1988 around five U.K. naval bases (Rosyth, Faslane, Holyloch, Devonport and Portsmouth) involved in the maintenance of nuclear submarines or the handling of nuclear weapons. The survey sought to investigate the levels of radionuclides present in the subtidal sediments around each base and in particular those isotope discharged as a result of maintenance and servicing of nuclear powered vessels.
