ESK-stress test for supply and disposal plants and facilities in Germany. Pt. 2. Storage of low- and intermediate-level radioactive wastes, stationary facilities for the conditioning of low- and intermediate-level radioactive wastes. Final repository for radioactive waste - statement

Description

As a consequence of the Fukushima Daiichi accident the ESK (Entsorgungskommission) was charged by the German Government to develop a stress test for supply and disposal plants and facilities in Germany. The report describes the frame of the consultant agreement and the used methodology. The statement is focused on interim storage and conditioning facilities for low- and intermediate-level radioactive wastes and final repositories for low- and intermediate-level radioactive wastes. The wastes include waste from operation shut-down and dismantling of nuclear power plants and research reactors, radioactive materials from federal collecting places from isotope production and nuclear industry and radioactive waste from conditioning facilities. Accident scenarios, potential release from the containers, potential radiation exposure are determined and discussed. The final repositories Schachtanlage Asse II, Morsleben (ERAM) and the Schachtanlage Konrad were evaluated.
