Charge pick-up phenomena in a fissionable actinide

Description
927 MeV/N U-projectile irradiated a stack consisting of CR-39 (DOP) plastics and Al target at an angle 30 deg to study the projectile fragmentation phenomena and charge pick up reactions. Etch pit diameters of about 8000 nuclei detected in the processed plastic have been measured using a computerised image analysing system. The diameter distribution of the observed pits shows the charge signatures of the uranium projectile, the ΔZ =+1 event and two large fragments. Occurrence of such small number of fragment charges is due to the short time of etching. The observed cross section of charge pick up events seems to be reduced due to the fission of newly formed nuclei after the charge pick-up. (author)
