On the management of radioactive wastes in the EC

Description
The complex problem of radioactive waste management will be solved only by systematic approaches. This requires an optimization of the process and not just the optimization of specific areas, which is an approach still encountered very frequently. Process optimization should be achieved by systems analysis techniques taking into account the conditions imposed for maximum safety and reliability and the aspects of minimum environmental pollution and minimum costs. In its research and training programs, the European Atomic Energy Community (Euratom) had worked on problems of reprocessing nuclear fuels and storing radioactive wastes since 1959; now the EC Commission under the Euratom four-year program launched in 1973 supports a number of research projects concerned with the management of radioactive wastes. Abstract (German)
Das komplexe Problem des Managements von radioaktiven Abfaellen wird sich zukuenftig nur loesen, wenn es systematisch betrieben wird. Dies erfordert eine Prozessoptimierung und nicht nur die singulaere Optimierung von Teilgebieten, wie sie heute noch weitgehend angewandt wird. Unter Beruecksichtigung der Auflagen fuer maximale Sicherheit und Zuverlaessigkeit sowie fuer minimale Umweltbelastung und Kosten soll die Prozessoptimierung mit systemanalytischen Methoden erreicht werden. Die Kommission der Europaeischen Gemeinschaft setzt sich nach frueheren Forschungs- und Ausbildungsprogrammen im Rahmen des 1973 begonnenen Vierjahresprogramms fuer Euratom fuer eine Reihe weiterer Forschungsvorhaben auf diesem Gebiet ein.
