Structure of light nuclei at short internucleon distances

Description

Results of an extensive program of experiments to study the structure of extremely light nuclei are briefly discussed. It is argued that the experimental data provide strong arguments in favor of the resulting picture where nuclei consist not only of protons and neutrons but also of nonnucleonic components such as baryonic resonances. The constituent quark model provides a conventional framework for treating such nonstandard content of nuclei at short distances between the constituents of nuclei
