Different types of fractures in orthopedic radiology matters

Description

A bone fracture is condition in which there is break in the continuity of bone. A bone fracture can be result of high force impact, or stress, or trivial injury as result of certain medical conditions that get the bones weak such osteoporosis, bone cancer, or osteogenesis imperfecta, where the fracture is then properly termed a pathologic fracture. A bone fracture can be diagnosed clinically based on history given and the physical examination performed. Imaging by X-ray is often performed to view the bone suspected of being fractured. In situation where X-ray is insufficient, a computed tomography (CT) or MRI may be performed. In orthopedic medicine the fractures are classified in various ways. Historically they are named after the doctors who first described the fracture conditions, However there are more systematic classifications in place currently. In this time is increasing account of fractures causing osteoporosis in older patient (prolongation of average of the live) and also in young population, the number of trauma fractures due to the road traffic accidents and sport activities. For these reasons the fruitful cooperation between radiologists and orthopedists are advisable for precise diagnosis and successful treatment our patients. (author)
