Description
As an alternative to building radioactive waste solidification plants at each nuclear power station, this paper considers the possibility of transporting unconditioned radioactive waste sludges and ion exchange resins to a treatment plant located elsewhere, using a transport flask designed to IAEA Type B(M) standards. The total system is considered from the retrieval of the wastes from the station storage tanks through to flask filling, transport, flask emptying and delivery of the waste to a solidification plant.
