Zero modes of the Dirac operator in 3 dimensions

Full text: For the Abelian Dirac operator in three dimensions, there is no index theorem known yet that would determine its zero modes. Therefore, results on the existence of these zero modes have been obtained only recently. Here, we briefly explain some of these results. (author)
