Description
Ground water from Gayamprit Klaten, Central Java has iron (Fe) and manganese (Mn) high content. Hence, water cannot use as clean water. The experiment was conducted at PPGN BATAN Laboratory of process G&PBGN to obtain the best condition of natural zeolite for purification Fe and Mn of ground water from Gayamprit. Analysis reported from ''Balai Teknik Kesehatan Lingkungan'', BTKL Yogyakarta has shown that Gayamprit water contains Fe is 1.28 ppm and Mn is 1.278 ppm. According to Enest W. Steel and the regulation of Men. Kes. RI No. 97/Men. Kes/VII/2002, maximum limit allowed for clean water of Fe is 1 ppm and Mn is 0.3 - 0.5 ppm. Natural zeolite used for water treatment because its cheap and market available. To obtain the best condition of zeolite, the experiments are acidity (pH), contact time and number of volume. Weight dry zeolite used for each experiment was 150 gram and water feed was 55 ml. The result experiments has shown the best condition for zeolite: pH is 7.07; contact time is 5 min, number of volume bed is 10 and product clean water contains and Fe undetected and Mn is 0.07 ppm. Due to water feed used in this experiment was expired more than 7-8 month which has contains undetected Fe and Mn less than 0.01 ppm of Mn, hence, number maximum bed volume may be not obtained.
