Parametric excitation of ion acoustic waves by an external current in a magnetized plasma

  • 1. UKAEA Research Group, Abingdon. Culham Lab.

Description

Considers the parametric excitation of ion acoustic waves in a plasma by a low frequency spatially dependent external current source which acts as the pump field. The authors show that there is instability only when the pump resonates with the ion acoustic wave. The threshold and growth rate of the instability are determined for this case.
