Description

The effect of an applied magnetic field upon a low-pressure plasma jet has been investigated. An induced ring current caused by plasma motion through the applied magnetic field extends the plasma radius due to its expansion force and simultaneously raises the plasma temperature due to a joule heating. We have observed that the application of magnetic field on the plasma results in a large radial-expansion and an efficient additional-heating of the plasma jet. (author)
