Incoherent scattering of 279.2 keV gamma rays by medium and heavy elements

Description
Whole atom differential incoherent scattering cross sections were determined experimentally for 279.2 keV gamma rays in Cu, Mo, Ag, Cd, Sn, Pr, Sm, Gd, Dy, Ho, Yb, Ta, W, Pb, Th and U at 900 scattering using a high resolution 133 cm3 HPGe detector and a 4k analyser. Incoherent scattering functions were extracted from the measured scattering cross sections at momentum transfer 15.92 A-1. The results are compared with theoretical values. Possible electron binding effects are discussed. For all 16 cases the present work constitutes the first report of incoherent scattering functions at momentum transfer 15.92 A-1. The present results deviate from the theoretical values for high-Z elements found previously. (author)
