Radiation safety and study on its measures of mining and utilizing radioactive coal mine in Xinjiang

  • 1. Xinjiang Radiation Environment Surveillance Station, Urumqi (China)

Description

In the work of radioactive scientific research, environmental monitoring and environmental impact assessment, the higher content of radioactive materials contained uranium and radium in coal, which was detected in the areas of Yili and Hetian. The detection rate of natural uranium in the areas of Yili were 100%, and content of uranium from long-flame coal for resident use was up to 32.5 mg/kg.After burning, the content of concentrated uranium was up to 860 mg/kg, and the specific activity of gross α was up to 5.78 x 104Bq/kg. Besides some uranium ore body, the content of uranium was up to 0.07% in part areas of diggings, and the γ radiation was 60 times more than the normal background value. The exploitation and utilization of radioactive coal led different degree radioactive pollution to the units and residential areas and endangered people's health. In order to prevent the radioactive pollution and the hurt to people, it was especially taken discussion to the situation of the radioactive coal, and brought authorized standard, strengthening surveillance manage and so on to protect the environment and people's health.
