Containers for LMFBR type reactors

Description

Purpose: To improve the safety of an lmfbr reactor upon leaking accident of liquid metal. Constitution: An inert gas supply device is provided for supplying an inert gas having a density higher than that of the atmospheric gas in a container to the upper surface of the container when the level of a liquid metal exceeds a predetermined value. Gas cooling means are provided in the inert gas supply device. When the fuel melting accidents should be generated causing the liquid metal to leak in the container, the inert gas is supplied to form an inert gas layer in the container. This can suppress the increase of the inside pressure in the container and can decrease the amount of sodium aerosol containing plutonium since sodium combustion does not take place. (Moriyama, K.)
