Nonradiative charge transfer in H+ + Na ->H + K+ at temperatures below 100,000 K

Cross sections have been calculated for nonradiative charge transfer H+ + Na → H + Na+ and H+ + K → H + K+ at temperatures below 100,000 K. The cross sections were computed in a two-state quantum mechanical representation including the initial state and the nearest final Σ state, which was expected to give the dominant contribution. The cross sections increase sharply above threshold and are rich in structure due to Stueckelberg-type oscillations. The rate coefficients for Na and K are 1x10-17 cm3/s and 2x10-16 cm3/s, respectively, at 10,000 K, and increase rapidly to ∼10-14 cm3/s, respectively, at 100,000 K
