Crystal structure of uranium tetrametaphosphate UP4O12

Description

An X-ray diffraction study was contacted of crystals of uranium tetrametaphosphate, UP4O12, prepared in the form of admixture to U(PO3)4-I uranium polyphosphate during synthesis of the latter from condensed acid melt. Parameters of triclinic lattice are as folllows: a=8.145(3), b=8.272(3), c=8.653(3)A, α=117.83(3), β=117.24(3), γ=91.02(3) deg, z=2. Sp.gr. P1(''Syntex p21'' diffractometer, 3124 ref., lambda MoKsub(α), LSM in an anisotropic approximation, R=0.068). Crystals are constructed of U-antiprisms (U=0 6A-the mean valUe) and tetrametaphosphate cycles. Length of bonds P-0sUb(bridge) are 1.51(3)-1.70(3) A, P-Osub(term) 1.32(3)-1.62(3)A
