State of development and development trends of power stations with high temperature reactors

Description
At present, no nuclear power plant equipped with a high temperature reactor is suitable for being introduced shortly into the European or US market, promising to rival the 1,300 MW power plants, even if several plants had been built offering all the advantages of the high temperature reactor. Variants are analyzed, and the question is dealt with, whether spherical fuel elements, the non-integrated method of construction and the prestresssed cast iron pressure vessel would not, after all, offer better chances for its competitive capacity when taking into account all the requirements to be met by the reactor system. The decision concerning the choice of the reactor system is to be prepared in the course of the next months. Since such a project with its whole fuel cycle included exceeds the financial power of the individual ocmpanies, and perhaps even that one of the individual nations, close international co-operation is in the offing. Zur Zeit gibt es kein Kernkraftwerk mit Hochtemperaturreaktor, das in Kuerze in Europa oder in den USA auf dem Markt eingefuehrt werden koennte und das verspricht, auch bei mehrfach wiederholter Ausfuehrung unter Beruecksichtigung aller Vorteile des Hochtemperaturreaktors eine echte Konkurrenz gegenueber Kernkraftwerken mit Leichtwasserreaktoren der Leistungsklasse 1.300 MW zu werden. Es werden Varianten untersucht, die sich mit der Frage beschaeftigen, ob nicht doch kugelfoermige Brennelemente, die nichtintegrierte Bauweise und der Vorgespannte Gusseiserne Druckbehaelter aufgrund der an das Reaktorsystem gestellten Forderungen die besseren Voraussetzungen fuer eine wettberwerbsfaehige Markteinfuehrung bieten. In den naechsten Monaten ist die Entscheidung ueber die Wahl des Reaktorsystems vorzubereiten. Da ein solches Projekt unter Beruecksichtigung der Schliessung des Brennstoffkreislaufes die Finanzierungskraft einzelner Unternehmen, vielleicht sogar einzelner Volkswirtschaften uebersteigt, bahnt sich eine enge Zusammenarbeit auf internationaler Ebene an.
