Study of formation mechanism of condensed Gd2Cl3 cluster

Description

Cocrystallization of Np, Pu, Am, Cm and Eu microamounts with Gd2Cl3 in system GdCl3-Gd0 is studied. It is shown that Am, as well as Eu, does not practically cocrystallize with Gd2Cl3. It is explained by the fact that electronic configuration of the elements in oxidation state 2+ is not related to the participation of d-orbitals. Capture of Np, Pu and Cm by their reduction to the oxidation state 2+ and decreases with an increase in standard oxidizing potentials of M3+/M2+ pairs. Logarithmic equation, describing the distribution of the elements between cluster Gd2Cl3 and melt GdCl3, is obtained. On the basis of the mechanism of microcomponent cocrystallization with Gd2Cl3 the conclusion is made on the mechanism of Gd2Cl3 type cluster formation. The mechanism envisages the participation of trivalent form of the element in Gd2Cl3 lattice construction
