Radioprotective action of MEA when decreasing the level of endogenous low-molecular thiols in rat tissues
Creators
Description
The level of acid-soluble thiols has been found to decrease in organs of rats after per os administration of cyclohexene. β-MEA administered to animals 60 minutes before irradiation, cyclohexene being preinjected, has a radioprotective action. This effect is due to a higher amount of mixed disulfides of the protector and proteins resulting from their slow decomposition in tissues because of the deficiency of glutathione, a cofactor of a disulfide-reducing system
