On abnormal notch sensitivity of metals in superplastic state
Description
Titanium VT3-1 alloy was studied in the superplastic condition by a notched-specimen tensile test at 900 deg C. The notch was found to reduce the strength and to increase plasticity. The sharper the notch, the lower the notched/unnotched specimen strength ratio is. The contour of the notch location after the test is described by an exponential function, the exponent being the smaller, the more superplastic the alloy is
