Determination of the phase transition temperature on the basis of softening of the longwave plasmon-phonon mode

  • 1. AN SSSR, Novosibirsk. Inst. Fiziki Poluprovodnikov

Description

A longwave plasmon-phonon mode is observed for the first time in the reflection spectra of crystals with a high degree of ionic bond (PbSnTe) recorded in the residual ray band. In this way the frequency of the transverse optical phonon ωTO could be measured. The temperature dependence of ωTO indicates that for temperatures below 150 K a structural phase transition takes place. The critical temperature of the phase transition is found to be Tc=(20 ± 2) K
