Influence of different sterilization methods on soil phosphorus

  • 1. Gujarat Agricultural Univ., Navsari (India)

Description

Two North Carolina Soils, differing in content of organic matter, were employed for the determination of change in the soil mineral phosphorus content induced by sterilization. Three different methods were employed: (1) Gamma-radiation (2) Methyl bromide fumigation and (3) Steam sterilization. Steam sterilization had the greatest effect on the inorganic phosphorus content of the Hyde-Soil, increasing it considerably more than either gamma radiation or methyl bromide fumigation. (author)
