Free energy of a planar two-phase interface

Description
The linear liquid--gas interface of a two-dimensional fluid is modeled by a membrane separating vacuum and incompressible liquid. The density reaction to an arbitrary external potential is written down exactly in the form of the inverse relation. From this, the system free energy is obtained as a functional of the resulting density. It is local, but highly singular, and cannot readily be interpreted as an extension of local thermodynamics
