Rapid determination of beryllium ion with a chelating resin detector tube

If metal ions in each solution are determined by the method same as that of the gas detector tube, it will be very convenient for detection of use and waste water. From this view, the authors have studied about a rapid determination of ferric, copper, and some other toxic ions in water with a chelating resin detector tube method. In the present paper, we have studied a rapid determination of beryllium ion in water and beryllium oxide floating in atmosphere. The detector resin was prepared by the reaction of 1.00g of the anion-exchange resin suspension, Abmerlite IRA-400, and chromazurol S in aqueous solution. To prepare a detector tube, the fine glass tube was filled with 0.15 g of the detector resine obtained above. Beryllium ion in concentration of 1 to 150 μg·cm-3 was determined within ±10 % error for about 5 min from the length of the colored layer formed by dipping the detector tube in the sample solution. Beryllium oxide of range 0 to 5 μg·m-3 in atmosphere was collected to dissolve in acid and neutralized sample solution was rapidly determined by the detector tube. (author)
