Reduction of radiation exposure by oxidized film on the pipings

  • 1. Kansai Electric Power Co., Inc., Osaka (Japan)

Description

It is one of methods of reduction of radiation exposure in the Nuclear Power Plant to depress depositting of radioactive cladding on the piping, etc. Accordingly tests were performed to confirm effects to depress depositting of radioactive cladding (e.g., 58CO, 60CO, etc.) on the piping, etc, by means of providing a prefilming the surface of piping before commercial operation. It is acknowledged that, regardless of somewhat differences existing according to what kind of material may be pre-filmed, a pre-film, if appropriately chosen, may exhibit substantial effect to depress depositting of radioactive cladding, and especially that in case of the main coolant piping (MCP) material deposit on film formed surface is about one half of that of nontreated surface.
