Procedure and device for producing radioactive fission products
Creators
Description
The invention concerns a procedure and device for producing radioactive fission products such as 99Mo and 133Xe by irradiation of fissionable materials in a reactor. Irradiation is carried out in the presence of oxygen, halogens or inert gas. The fissionable material (UO2/235U 0.7%) is heat isolated in a container and irradiated at temperatures above the sublimation temperatures of the fission products. After irradiation the volatile components are flashed by an inert gas, the irradiation container is removed, and the fission products are solved in alkaline hydroxides or ammonia
