Waste immobilisation in fluorite matrix

  • 1. Bhabha Atomic Research Centre, Bombay (India). Fuel Chemistry Div.

Description

Calcia stabilised zirconia with fluorite structure is one of the host candidates for rare earths and actinides in immobilisation of high level radioactive wastes (HLW). Solid state studies on Ca-Zr-Ce-O system at 1473 K in air have shown the formation of two fluorite type, zirconium-rich and cerium-rich solid solution regions. In the zirconium-rich solid solution region of [Ca0.23Zr0.77]1-xCexO2-y, lattice parameter 'a' varied linearly with cerium concentration as: a= 5.173+0.26x[a in A]. (author). 5 refs., 1 fig
