On technique for determination of some element concentration during chemical composition analysis by the X-ray fluorescence method

  • 1. AN SSSR, Moscow. Fiziko-Tekhnicheskij Inst.

Description

Some peculiarities of the technique of analyzing the chemical composition of a substance when using an X-ray fluorescence method, are described. To increase the resolution ability of a spectrometer, filters of selective absorption are suggested. The analysis of L- and M-lines of elements also help to estimate the contribution of separate elements in the registered radiation. The X-ray fluorescence method can be used when registering elements lighter than magnesium. In this case, one can judge of the total amount of all elements with Z<12 in a sample by the integral intensity of the back scattering peak of the initial X-radiation from the radioactive source. The additional information on the average atomic number of the target material can be obtained from comparing the compton component of a reverse scattered initial beam with a coherently scattered component. It is noted that the X-ray fluorescence method permits to detect elements not only of solid samples of mountain rocks but of a gas atmosphere component, as well. The X-ray fluorescence method is perspective in cosmic experiments
