Establishing a quality assurance system in the isotopic hydrology laboratory of Madagascar-INSTN: application on fifteen (15) groundwater samples from southern of Madagascar

After installing and operating the MADAGASCAR-INSTN tritium line for tritium analysis in water, the Isotope Hydrology Department continues the development of its laboratory. The purpose of this study is to set up a quality assurance system using the ISO/CEI 17025 norm in order to get reliable results, which then become competitive among those of the other laboratories around the world. The ISO/CEI/ 17025 norm was applied by analyzing fifteen (15) groundwater samples collected from different borehole in the South of Madagascar. The results showed that the enrichment factor and the performance factor are respectively 24.38 and 0.88. The tritium concentration of the different samples varies from 0.27 TU to 2.97 TU. The atmospheric tritium concentration is 1.25 TU, which is similar to that of the city of Antananarivo. The concentrations of the enriched tritium and that of non-enriched one are approximately the same, indicating the use of a dead water of good quality. The set up of the quality assurance system in the tritium laboratory at MADAGASCAR- INSTN was successful since all the expected results were obtained

Apres l'installation et la mise en marche de la chaine de detection de tritium dans l'eau au Madagascar -INSTN, le Departement d'hydrologie isotopique poursuit le developpement de son laboratoire. Cette etude se propose de mettre en place un systeme d'assurance qualite en appliquant la norme ISO/CEI/ 17025 pour rendre acceptable les resultats obtenus et les rendre ainsi competitifs par rapports aus resultats des autres laboratoires existant dans le monde. L'application de cette norme est faite en analysant quinze echantillons d'eaux souterraines provenant des forages du Sud de Madagascar. Les resultats obtenus indiquent que le facteur et la performance d'enrichissement sont respectivement 24,38 et 0,88. La teneur en tritium de ces echantillons varie de 0,27 UT a 2,97 UT. Nous avons obtenu une valeur de la teneur en tritium atmospherique egale a 1,25 UT qui n'est autre que la teneur en tritium atmospherique de la ville d'Antananarivo. La concentration du tritium enrichi et de celle non enrichi sont presque similaires, donc l'eau morte utilisee est bonne. En general,l'objectif de la mise en place d'un systeme d'assurance qualite au laboratoire d'analyse du tritium au MADAGASCAR-INSTN est atteint car on a trouve presque les valeurs attenduesAdditional details
