Determination of Rb and Sr by x-ray fluorescence in the measurement of radiometric ages

  • 1. Windsor Univ., Ontario (Canada). Dept. of Geology

Description

An x-ray fluorescence technique for the determination of Rb and Sr concentrations incorporates corrections for background curvature, inter-element and matrix effects. Comparison of data by isotope dilution and x-ray fluorescence on twenty samples representing three whole-rock isochrons, shows that the methods have similar accuracy and precision in measuring the Rb/Sr ratio, and thus the radiometric age. Measurements by either method are within 120 m.y. for age of 1900-2700 m.y. (author)
