Safety evaluation to prevent brittle failure of reactor support skirts

Description

Starting off with operating conditions and statistic mechanical properties of special 15 MnTi steel during its production, the brittle failure possibility of reactor support skirts is analyzed. According to the result of this analysis, it is shown that: (1) The 15 MnTi steel conforms with the safety designing criterion. As in the whole lifetime of support skirts, the operating temperature is 323 k which is greater than TNDT + 17 K; (2) When the instability caused by a crack occurs in the material the brittle failure will not be happened, because its critical crack is much larger than the wall thickness of support skirts; (3) These conclusions are also applicable to the weld metal, hot effect zones and base metal
