Review of RTE's R and D activities 2017-2018

Description

Since its creation, RTE has developed a strong culture of research and development (R and D) to enhance its technical and economic performance. In line with this ambition, the French Energy Regulatory Commission (CRE) has since 2013 specifically introduced a tariff decisions (Turpe HTB), an incentive regulation designed to give RTE the means to successfully carry out the R and D and innovation projects needed to build the networks of the future, by ensuring that RTE is encouraged to engage in R and D projects and innovative investments. This document provides an interim assessment of R and D and innovation work carried out by RTE in 2017 and 2018, as part of the 2017-2020 program for the current tariff period (Turpe 5 THB). RTE's R and D road map was structured around five strategic programs: evolution of network infrastructure, assets management, operation and management of the electrical system, optimal development of the energy transition network, environment and society, and foresight, economics and smart grids. The results obtained can be assessed according to three levels: Implementation and commissioning of new solutions; Technological maturity and progress towards the implementation of new solutions; knowledge acquisition on high-stake issues
